Dr. Mary Shuman, a healthcare professional in Fredericksburg for over two decades, graduated with honors from the University of Oklahoma, earning induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Society. With twenty years of board certification and fellowship with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, she has remained committed to leadership growth within her field.
She served as chair of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Mary Washington Hospital from 2007 to 2019, overseeing significant growth in the department, and most recently was the Chair for Women and Children Services at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. Her contributions played a role alongside the excellent nursing leadership at both hospitals, and she is proud of the accolades she received for this administrative and essential leadership work. Another accolade she is proud of is being recognized as the best clinical proctor by the Class of 2020 at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. She was honored by being voted as one of the best OB-GYNs in 2023 by Fredericksburg Parent and Northern Virginia Magazine.
Beyond her career, Dr. Shuman, now an empty nester with her husband of thirty years, after raising two successful children in Spotsylvania, completed her Master’s in Applied History from George Mason University in May 2023. She looks forward to working part-time at Elite Women’s Health in gynecology, focusing on each patient’s needs and concerns with an emphasis on patient education, teaching, menopause, contraception, and complex gynecological problems.
